Many people believe that poker is an easy game however this is not so, many inexperienced players also referred to as ‘rookies’ often get a touch of beginners luck but once this passes it becomes clear the game is a lot harder than the professionals make it look.

The rule of thumb is not to bet what you simply cannot afford to lose, now many people may say they cannot or do not want to lose anything so it’s a good idea to start off small especially when playing online. Free bankrolls are the answer for many new players in poker as it’s got less risk.

Many online poker sites will actually give you money to play as long as you sign up with them; simply! They will not require a deposit from you and although we are not talking big bucks to play with it is a great start as you can see how you get on with the game and weigh up the risk of putting your own money in.

You should play the free poker money wisely as if you do not you may lose it before you realise what actually happened therefore put small amounts of the money on and then build it up; this will allow you to gain a feel for the game and stands you in good stead if you wish to proceed with putting your own money into the game.

Remember to select the game you would like to play very wisely, start off with games which are a little more straight forward such as Texas Holdem and avoid more advanced games like Omaha as if you do not follow this rule you are sure to lose your money very quickly which is very disheartening.

Poker is a relatively complex game and you must always keep in mind that you can lose a lot of money if you do not play the game properly. The first step to understanding poker, especially online, is to only bet what you can afford to lose. Of course no one enjoys losing money but it can become a dangerous game if you do not think about it wisely; the term do the run before you can walk best describes the strategy that should be used.

One of the first things you must learn is how Pot-betting actually works then you are able to build on the technique in order to win some needed which is always the aim of the game for many people. You want to strive to gaining pot control therefore you need to allow your opponents to make mistakes as then you can swoop in to capitalize on them.

You need to make sure that you are not helping your opponents when their luck is down by giving them any implied odds. In a controlled game where the pot is controlled you can only bet what is in the pot rather than a no limit game where the amounts can become very high, which also gives you a greater chance of losing a lot of money.

By making a small bet you will ultimately make a big difference to the final valuation of the pot. A good strategy to use is to make small sized bets which can help to fool your opponents into thinking you are not confident, this can then encourage them to make an over the top pot sized bet; this is referred to as ‘opening the door’. Controlling the pot size makes for a savvy poker player.

Poker is always thought of as a game that involves a great deal of luck as it all has to do with what cards you have in your hand. This is true however there is also a certain amount of strategy involved in the game and if you are going to play you need to understand them otherwise you really only have a shot in the dark attempt at winning.

Each type of game incorporates a different strategy and as a low limit poker game involves lower stakes as the betting limit is actually fixed to a lower level than many other types of poker. The first tip to playing low limit poker is to be very aware and alert throughout the game as you may miss what your opponents are doing if you do not; a sure fire way to losing the game.

Many players will not be as focused as they are in games with higher stakes however money is money and you can take advantage of this if you pay attention. Secondly, set yourself a certain amount that you want to play with and lose if you have to, in the event you lose this money then step away from the game as you are putting yourself at financial risk if you do not.

Finally, make sure that you develop discipline as this will help you greatly throughout the game, in the event you are not doing well at a table or fancy your chance elsewhere then move on as staying and losing will not get you anywhere. For a more aggressive game that gets your blood pumping choose a six handed table as it is a little more exciting however if you are just starting out stick to a ten person table.
